G.A.S. Foundation proudly welcomes Ugoma Ebilah, a passionate creative entrepreneur and cultural curator, to its Board of Trustees. Ugoma's journey aligns perfectly with the Foundation's mission of nurturing artistic potential and enhancing the arts and culture landscape.

This week, Okiki Akinfe joined G.A.S. Lagos, opening the second year of programming at the foundation. The UK based artist and recent RCA graduate is eager to immerse herself in the ecosystem, and Yoruba culture, augmenting her exploration by visiting pertinent locales in Lagos. An innovative aspect of her stay involves the exploration of sourcing and crafting natural pigments, utilizing locally available materials. 

Guest Artists Space Foundation (G.A.S.) is currently seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to fill the role of Managing Director to be based full time at Guest Artists Space Foundation in Lagos, Nigeria. This unique opportunity is perfect for someone who truly embraces the creative and cultural sector in Nigeria and is eager to make a substantial impact. As the Managing Director, you will oversee the administration, practical operations, programming, and local fundraising efforts of this Lagos-based organisation, acting on behalf of the board.

Whilst May and June marked the end of the first season of residencies at G.A.S. Foundation they were also a period of firsts that were realised through an organisational residency with Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) Lagos and the arrival of two economics students and researchers from the Stockholm School of Economics.

We’re excited to announce the open call for the Art Exchange: Moving Image programme, a collaborative and cross-cultural curatorial professional development and exhibition programme for early to mid-career visual arts curators from Sub-Saharan Africa working with moving image. The programme is supported by the British Council and organised by LUX, the UK agency for the support and promotion of artists working with moving image, Yinka Shonibare Foundation and Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation, Nigeria.

In May 2023 Yinka Shonibare Foundation and Guest Artists Space Foundation announced a new collaborative open call with Tilga Art Fund, a philanthropic initiative launched by Wally Bakare to foster criticality, broaden artistic practice and engage new and exciting modes of art-making among young contemporary African artists. The grand prize of an all-expenses paid residency at Guest Artists Space Foundation was awarded to Kampala-based multidisciplinary artist Katesi Kalange

Guest Artist Space Foundation (G.A.S.) and Yinka Shonibare Foundation (Y.S.F.) are delighted to announce a call out for the second edition of the annual G.A.S. Fellowship Award. Three funded 6-8 week residencies will be offered to practitioners based in West Africa between September 2023 and March 2024 with two taking place in Lagos and one at our sister location on the G.A.S. Ecology Green Farm in Ijebu.

Join G.A.S. residents and Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) postgraduate students, Alexei Moore and Miranda Hagborg as they share reflections on the dynamics of private capital in Sub-Saharan Africa. They have investigated the differences and similarities between investing in Nigeria and Sweden and dissect the role of private capital markets in Nigeria's social and economic contexts.

On the evening of 5th June Raqs Media Collective, (comprised of Monica Narula, Jeebesh Bagchi, and Shuddhabrata Sengupta) landed at Lagos’ bustling Murtala Muhammed International Airport to embark on their long-awaited World Weather Network residency.

To mark the end of their G.A.S. Farm House residency, New Delhi based Raqs Media Collective (Monica Narula, Jeebesh Bagchi, Shuddhabrata Sengupta) are hosting a screening and discussion at G.A.S. Lagos. Raqs are the Yinka Shonibare Foundation delegates for the World Weather Network, a visionary response to the climate crisis uniting 28 arts agencies worldwide in an endeavour to create an archipelago of voices, viewpoints, and responses to one of the most pressing issues of our time.

Artist-led spaces on the African continent are not a new phenomenon, but it’s a growing one. Artists are paving the way for future generations by setting up initiatives to support both their own practice and that of their peers. 

G.A.S. Foundation is thrilled to welcome Raqs Media Collective, a renowned group of artists who also research, curate, and write, as the Yinka Shonibare Foundation delegates for the World Weather Network project at our conceptual weather station on the 54-acre Ecology Green Farm in Ikiṣẹ, Nigeria. The World Weather Network is a visionary response to the climate crisis, uniting 28 arts agencies worldwide in an endeavor to create an archipelago of voices and viewpoints.
