A Discussion and Showcase of New Works Emerging from Research into Earth Pigments and Material Experimentation by Moses Hamborg

Join us at G.A.S. Lagos on 8th July 2026 for im/MATERIAL, an intimate conversation and presentation of new works exploring the research and material investigations undertaken by current resident Moses Hamborg during his time at the G.A.S. Farm House in Ikiṣẹ.

Throughout his residency, Moses investigated locally sourced earth pigments, collecting and experimenting with natural materials as part of an expanded painting practice. Building on this fieldwork, he processed the collected pigments and tested their properties across a range of binders, surfaces, and techniques. The resulting works mark a departure from his regular portrait practice, opening up new possibilities through material exploration.

The evening will conclude with a showcase of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and material studies developed over the course of his residency, offering insight into his evolving engagement with earth pigments and expanded approaches to making.
