Artist in Focus: Akwasi Bediako Afrane

From 23rd August until 4th September Guest Projects Digital will be spotlighting the work of Ghanaian artist Akwasi Bediako Afrane across both the website and Guest Projects social channels as part of the 2021 programme.

Afrane's practice explores the juxtaposition of augmentation and kintetic sculpture adjacent to the relationship between technological gadgets and humans. He works primarily with discarded electronic items referred to as “amputees” that are refashioned into machines and micro-organisms described as “TRONS”. Their physical manifestation is only the first part of their evolution; the TRONS are also converted into digital models allowing for experimentations in VR, AR, video, animation and gaming technologies. Their seemingly infinite existence within digital platforms and media allows for reflection, engagement and interactions around the globe.

Guest Projects Digital 2021 sees Afrane showcasing images, film, digital media and hosting an interactive online event. Follow the journey on the Guest Projects website.
